Suddenly it all feels like it is coming together. What a week it’s been. I have broken my distance record twice in a week, the first ride of 120km being a ride to Jodrell Bank and back.
Another challenge that I’ve aimed at since subscribing to Strava is a Gran Fondo (translation: big day out). For August 2015, the Strava Gran Fondo was set as a ride of at least 150 km (93 miles). Alison and I decided we would have a crack at it. Rather than invent a route ourselves we adapted someone else’s route slightly for a different start point. A late flurry of other possible riders came to nothing apart from meeting up with Cat part way around, close to her home turf.
Alison decided that she would follow me, largely to stop herself pushing the big gears too much so for much of the ride I was pace setting. We cafe stopped twice and practiced some good “nibbling” on the way so that even 50km later we finished strongly (for me a personal best from Matlock Bath to Matlock). 150km is 10km longer than the longest day on the St Malo to Nice. I’m not doing the back to back days that we will need to do for that trip, but it’s still a massive boost to the confidence and a big tick off the challenge list.
