Thanks to an EastJet flight from Bordeaux, I arrived in Nice on Friday afternoon and faced a few hours by myself. The hotel wasn’t in such a great part of the city, being close to the airport so I didn’t venture out until Saturday lunchtime when I was collected by my two knights in shining armour (well a blue van). They had a few surprises planned for the girls for the finishing line and we had a couple of hours to prepare. The first hurdle to cross was trying to buy some ice for the champagne – we ended up improvising with ice pops! The second hurdle was deciding where the finishing actually was! We didn’t get it right but after a call or two, the whole group was cycling up the short incline to where we were waiting.
All the angst and worry about whether I was right to be there evaporated and I was so, so glad that I was there. It has allowed me to finish that part of the story, perhaps not in the manner I had hoped, but I now feel ready to move on to the next challenge, whatever that may be.
